Juvenile Delinquent

Last Thursday I walked to the library since it only takes 5 minutes and it was so nice outside. I have to pass a grocery store, fire station and several gift shops. There's usually a cop or two parked at a barbecue restaurant because they give 10% off to anyone wearing a uniform. I was wearing jeans,a backpack, had my hair in a pony tail, and was rockin' my ipod, and since I'm only 4'11" in flip flops, a policeman asked me if I shouldn't be at school, sternly I should add. He threw in a "young lady" at the end of his question, I guess, to let me know he meant business. I hate being called young lady, but I started giggling because I saw him before on my walks with Peanut so I thought he was only joking. Turns out, he wasn't. The giggling didn't help. He didn't believe me and even asked for proof that I wasn't skipping school or else he was going to call my parents. I showed him my driver's license and told him that when I was in high school on a sunny day like that, I would never have skipped school to go to the library. He felt bad for being such an ass to me but I didn't really care, I still get carded for lottery tickets so it's nothing new.

Actually it kind of made me feel like a badass to be questioned by the 5-0. Yes, I'm dangerous to society. Watch out. It's thug life for me, all the way. That's the way I roll-gangsta style.

Why can't I pass for some kind of sexy movie star or a model instead of a nerdy 13 year old playing hooky to hang out at the damn library?

*BTW-Peanut seems to be feeling better. His doctor left his surgery wounds open to drain so I feel the need to explain to anyone who walks by,"Please don't think I abuse my dog. He's just had surgery, that's why he has cuts on his little bum. I didn't do that I swear." I'm not sure why I do that since everyone in this neighborhood already knows that he's the most spoiledest(is that a word? it is now) pet on the block. His follow up is on Thursday so I'm keeping my fingers crossed and trying not to think about it.

ROTFL!!

If you don't like being called "Young Lady", wait until you get my age and people start calling you "Ma'am". Oh, now that one will make you cringe!

:)

Yay for Peanuts!

And my sister is also 4'11, so nobody believes that she's 20. They also have a hard time being convinced that she is my older sister.

Chani-I am used to hearing ma'am since I grew up in the South. For me it is a term of respect. But 'young lady' is so "I'm your authority figure, and you're in trouble." I've always thought it was rude and I hate it.

Thinker-I bet she has a hard time finding clothes. I'm not ashamed to say I've been seen shopping in the kids' section. If you can believe it, I'm actually taller than my 2 older sisters and my mother.

DUDE! That is SOFA KING funny.

I'm scrolling through Laurie's comments and clicking on the peeps and then I come to yours and then I click on it and then I read that you can pick up your 6'2" hubby and then it says you have a knack for remembering little factoids and then I sez to myself, I sez, Gawpo.....maybe you should go check out her blog and then I do and then I see where you got the third degree from the Five-OH and I think to myself.......what a wonderful world.

You should have skipped on down the path with bouncing pigtails. Hey! Why don't you try wearing a parochial school uniform!!! Then you could get the 10% off AND get hassled by the fuzz. Brilliant, I tell you. Sometimes I'm BRILLIANT. lol...

Great blog.

I can't effing believe you got stopped by a cop because he thought you were ditching class.

And he threatened to call your parents?? OMG that is too funny.

TOO funny.

Oh man, I'm glad the cop at least had the decency to feel like an ass afterwards.

Silly cop!

Madge and Jay- I know right? He saw me every day and never said anything to me. He said he had a teenage daughter so that's probably why he was acting all fatherly.

Shanshu-I skipped school to go to the beach, to go shopping, to watch soap operas, to sleep, to participate in scurrilous, unmentionnable things (that will remian unmentionnable because my dad lurks here), but NEVER EVER to go to the f-ing library. Frankly, I was insulted...

I'm glad Peanut is feeling better, poor baby.

I was carded until I was in my 50's. I'm sure it was because I'm small (5'1") and until recently, had very long hair.

People half my age were not carded but I was. In fact, they were given mean looks for corrupting me. Sigh.

Chani is right. Ma'am is much worse. I still don't feel old enough to be a ma'am.

At least you're taller that me.

Ma'am is bad but I'm used to it.

Once I was at the park with my son and this lady asked if he was mine. then she very bluntly asked how old I was. i think I answered 21 or 22. She looked very relieved and confessed that she'd thought I was only about 14.
