Hippy or not to be

Whenever I make friends with a Baby Boomer, I always ask questions about what it was like growing up in the 50s and 60s. Especially the 60s because it was a decade of so much change. A really good friend of mine answered a question in a way that sums her up in one sentence. I asked," So, you were a hippy then? Or weren't you?" She said, " Well I wanted to be but I didn't like the clothes...."

It was/is about soooo much more than the clothes. It was also about the hair. hahaha

I was a late hippie (I was born in early 60s). I wore long cotton skirts with indian block-printing on them and silk kurta shirts from India, hand-embroidered, or jeans with knee-length suede moccasins. And a do-rag - always a do-rag for YEARS.

The thing I hated was the patchouli oil. Barf. Oh, and the drugs. Never was into the drugs.

Oh suede moccasins! I'm dying for some! I've been looking and looking.

Not a fan of patchouli either.

Minnetonka Moccasins are a product of my home state ... duh. They're classics. I had some at age 6.

I have a love/hate relationship with Boomers.

I liked the clothes and long hair but not the drugs or indiscriminate sex.

What a loser, huh?
